MAP Pricing Explained

MAP pricing is a voluntarily agreement a retailer enters into with a manufacturer or supplier. According to the agreement, the retailer can sell an item for any price they wish, but may not advertise the item for an amount less than the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP). These agreements are designed to help level the playing field for all retailers of the product as well as establish a higher perceived value for the product.

How do I know if a product is a MAP-priced product?

In some cases the product will say it is a MAP-priced product. In most cases however the retailer is not allowed to even indicate that the product is MAP priced, so a good indicator is if you see the same pricing on identical items on each website you have visited. That often should tell you it is a MAP-priced product.
